Reviving My Ricoh GR: Disassembling and Cleaning the CMOS

Ricoh GR was my 3rd camera after I began my photography journey, bought in 2013. Before that, I was using the Canon EOS 6D. The Canon EOS 6D was a heavy DSLR that I could not bring everywhere all the time. I wanted a compact, high-quality camera so that I could take photos even when my Canon EOS 6D was not available. In the first few months, I was happy with the Ricoh GR. It fit in my pocket, and I brought it everywhere, taking many photos. However, I noticed a strange spot in all the photos I took with the Ricoh GR. I realised that there was dust inside the CMOS. After researching on the Internet, I discovered that dust issues are common among Ricoh GR users. ...

A Random Walk in the Hong Kong Flower Show

The Hong Kong Flower Show has been the “training centre” for many Hong Kong photographers and photography enthusiasts. They usually go to the flower show to practise their photography skills and sometimes buy more gear afterwards. Since I bought my first camera 11 years ago, I have been to the flower show almost every year. The Hong Kong Flower Show was suspended for 3 years and resumed this exhibition. As a frequent visitor in previous years, I wanted to know how the show this year was. Was there any difference between the shows in the past? We went to the Hong Kong Flower Show in the second week of the exhibition period. ...

Revisit Hung Heung Lo Fung

Last month, I announced to kick start a project, A Year in Hong Kong, to rekindle my photography passion. The best way to start is to resume my hiking habit. Last year, we went to Hung Heung Lo Fung. This time, we planned to revisit Hung Heung Lo Fung and extend our journey to the nearby mountains. Hung Heung Lo Fung is located west of Braemar Hill, North Point. According to the legend, a Hakka family who settled in Kowloon in the 18th century built a Tin Hau temple in Causeway Bay. As the number of worshippers increased, they bought a red incense burner. The temple was then called the Hung Heung Lo Temple. The mountain at the back of the temple was named Hung Heung Lo Fung. ...

Rekindle the Photography Passion – A Year in Hong Kong

11 years ago, I bought my first camera, Canon 60D. I brought my camera out in the first few months almost every day. Whenever possible, I picked my camera and shot anything I wanted. My first two photography projects were shooting graduation photos of mine and my friend. We had a great time playing with the camera. At that time, we didn’t know much about photography knowledge. DSLR had better specs than mobile phones, so we relied on it solely. ...
